About the Institute
The MacDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology is New Zealand's premier research organisation concerned with high quality research and research education in materials science and nanotechnology. The Institute is a collaborative venture encompassing the knowledge and expertise of leading researchers and research facilities.
The MacDiarmid Institute was formed in 2002 as a partnership involving four universities ( Massey, Canterbury , Otago and Victoria Universities), and two Crown Research Institutes (GNS Science and Industrial Research Ltd). Since then a substantial relationship has developed with Principal Investigators at the University of Auckland, and our open structure allows researchers from other organisations to join us too. The CoRE is hosted by Victoria University of Wellington. From the beginning we set ourselves goals that have uniquely determined our identity. These goals can be broadly summarised in the vision statements we have created for ourselves:
