NZ Innovation for Sustainability - Napier (12 August)

Come and hear MacDiarmid Institute scientists talk about how materials science is offering a greener future for our planet.

Our speakers will talk about how solar energy materials, new battery technologies, and carbon capture can offer a zero carbon future.

They will also look at how materials research into energy efficient computers, recyclable consumer electronics and upcycling natural materials will contribute to a renewable economy.

When it comes to carbon and sustainability, one of the things that matters most is the stuff that we make things from; materials.

Professor Justin Hodgkiss Principal Investigator Co-Director The MacDiarmid Institute

Dr Carla Melendandri

carla website Dr Carla Melendandri is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Otago and a Principal Investigator in the MacDiarmid Institute.

Her research involves the use of colloidal and surface chemistry techniques to develop new functional nanoscale materials for a broad range of applications from dentistry to energy storage.

Professor Shane Telfer

shane websiteDr Shane Telfer is a Professor of Chemistry at Massey University and a Principal Investigator in the MacDiarmid Institute.

His work is focused on researching how metal organic frameworks, tiny crystal sponges that act like sponges, could be used to absorb and enrich carbon dioxide and eliminate nitrous oxide greenhouse gas emissions.
