Professor Alan MacDiarmid

We’re named after Nobel laureate Professor Alan MacDiarmid. Alan MacDiarmid shared the Nobel prize in Chemistry (jointly with Professors Alan Heeger and Hideki Shirakawa) in 2000 for his research into conducting polymers, a research area still key to the work of the Institute.
Alan MacDiarmid was a regular visitor and friend to the Institute, staying close to Institute researchers and regularly attending AMN conferences.
