DiscoveryCamp 2026

E tuwhera ana ināianei ngā tono mō tā mātou PuniTūhura (DiscoveryCamp) ā-tau!

Ko PuniTūhura (DiscoveryCamp) tahi puni noho utukore e whā rā te roa, mā ngā tauira Māori me ngā tauira Pasefika i tetau ā-kura 12, tau 13 hoki. Ka whai wāhi ki te hōtaka ko te wheako o te taiwhanga pūtaiao me ngā mahi whakawhanaunga, ā, e tuwhera ana ki te hunga e aro nui ana ki te mahi pūtaiao. Ka whakahaerehia te puni i te 19 ki te 23 o Hānuere 2026, ki Waipapa Taumata Rau i Tāmaki Makaurau. He kaupapa utukore! Ko te utu mō te haere (pēnei i te utu mō te tereina, te pahi me ngā rererangi), te noho, ngā kai me ngā mahi whakawhanaunga, mā mātou anō e utu.

Applications for our annual DiscoveryCamp are now open!

DiscoveryCamp is a free four-day residential camp for current Year 12 and 13 Māori and Pacific Island students. The programme includes laboratory experience and social activities and is open to all with a strong interest in science. The camp runs 19-23 January 2026 at Waipapa Taumata Rau in Tāmaki Makaurau. It’s free! All travel (including train, bus and flights), accommodation, meals and social activities are included.

Applications

Before starting your DiscoveryCamp application, please make sure you have all information to hand. This is important because you cannot return later to add missing information. You will need:

  1. Contact details (phone and email) for your nominated parent or guardian
  2. Contact details (phone and email) for your nominated referee (teacher or member of your community)
  3. Your school address (physical address, not postal)
  4. A copy of your formal NCEA results (or equivalent). Please include copies of any awards, scholarships or prizes. Please name your file as follows: SURNAME-FirstName-DISCOVERY-DocumentType, eg BROWN-Kate-DISCOVERY-NCEA
  5. Your statement of motivation. We require a short paragraph outlining your reasons for applying for DiscoveryCamp, as well as what you hope to achieve (150 to 300 words max.)

Applications for DiscoveryCamp 2026 are now open! You can apply using the application form found here. Applications will close 17 August 2025 and we will be in touch with all applicants for by the end of October to let them know the outcomes to their applications.

Overall, attending the Discovery Camp was a life changing experience. Not only did I gain a deeper understanding of advancements in science and technology, but I also made lifelong friendships with other young students from across Aotearoa.
