NanoCamp 2026

Hosted by the MacDiarmid Institute, NanoCamp is a four-day residential lab experience with top scientists, completing hands-on investigations into a range of topics including electron microscopy, laser physics and nano-electronics. We're looking for current year 12 or 13 students with a strong academic background who are planning to continue with science.

Applications

Before starting your NanoCamp application, please make sure you have all information to hand. This is important because you cannot return later to add missing information. You will need:

  1. Contact details (phone and email) for your nominated parent or guardian
  2. Contact details (phone and email) for your nominated referee (teacher or member of your community)
  3. Your school address (physical address, not postal)
  4. A copy of your formal NCEA results (or equivalent). Please include copies of any awards, scholarships or prizes. Please name your file as follows: SURNAME-FirstName-NANO-DocumentType, eg BROWN-Kate-NANO-NCEA
  5. Your statement of motivation. We require a short paragraph outlining your reasons for applying for NanoCamp, as well as what you hope to achieve (150 to 300 words max.)

Applications for NanoCamp 2026 are now open! You can apply using the application form found here. Applications will close 17 August 2025 and we will be in touch with all applicants for by the end of October to let them know the outcomes to their applications.

MacDiarmid Institute NanoCamp 2019

A group of New Zealand's brightest high school science pupils from across the country spent a week in Wellington getting an introduction to nanoscience and advanced materials during NanoCamp. The 2019 cohort made a video showing their hands-on experience in spintronics, microscopy, nanoelectronics, chemistry, and optics.
