Biography

Chris received his PhD from the University of Otago (2016), supervised by Professor Nigel Lucas and Professor Keith Gordon. He then held postdoctoral positions in the group of Professor Oliver Wenger at the University of Basel as a Swiss Government Excellence Postdoctoral Fellow (2016-2019), then at the Stanford PULSE Institute with Professor Kelly Gaffney and Dr Amy Cordones-Hahn (2019-2021). In 2021, Chris started his independent research group at the University of Geneva as a SNSF Ambizione Fellow, then joined the University of Auckland as a Lecturer in 2022.

Research interests

Chris’s research interests centre around the design, study and application of photocatalytic systems for sustainable chemical manufacturing, solar energy conversion and next-generation medicine. His group integrates advanced spectroscopic characterisation (including resonant and ultrafast X-ray spectroscopies) and computational analyses to gain deeper insight into developed materials and construct robust molecular design principles for targeted applications.

Solar energy powers life on Earth – once properly harnessed, it will also power society.
