Biography

Dave holds a PhD in Physical Chemistry, using ATR-IR to study the surface chemistry of catalysts.  He is now a Senior Teaching Fellow at Te Whare Wānanga o Otāgo University of Otago, where for the last decade he has run the successful Department of Chemistry Outreach Programme.

Research interests

Dave's current research is focused on two areas: firstly, the development of hands-on activities for use with school groups; secondly, the learning and development of self-efficacy amongst the department students who are involved in delivering the outreach programme. Dave has a longstanding involvement with the Institute, particularly in outreach activities but also in mentoring students. Most recently the Institute supported him to take a team of students to Northland in November 2023, visiting five schools in five days, working with 430 school children over the week.
