We recently welcomed our colleagues from Kyoto University’s Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences (iCeMS). This two-day symposium, held in Wellington (with an off-site day in Martinborough), brought together a range of researchers at the interface of data-materials science and cell biology. Co-Director Professor Justin Hodgkiss noted that it was a real privilege to host researchers of the caliber of Professor Susumu Kitagawa, and that Professor Kitagawa was deeply impressed by the MacDiarmid Institute early career researchers who were able to present and discuss science with the visitors.
iCeMS opened an on-site lab in Wellington in 2021, operated jointly with the MacDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology. The Centre for Integrated Data-Material Sciences (iDM) is based at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, and is the fifth international on-site lab opened by iCeMS.
The visit by iCeMS follows a visit by a MacDiarmid Institute delegation to Kyoto University for a joint symposium in August 2023.
One of the main outcomes from the February 2024 symposium was to identify new areas for research exchanges, and to strengthen existing ones. A number of MacDiarmid Institute researchers will be travelling to Kyoto University later this year to carry out collaborative research.
