How do you go from a Research Lab to a new start-up company? The topic for this year’s MacDiarmid Institute Regional Lecture Series is ‘To Industry and Beyond’, which focuses on pathways from science to industry.
Join us at our third event of the series in Tauranga on 21st of November in association with Cafe Scientifique Tauranga, when Shane Telfer and Anna Farquhar will talk about the way that materials science spins into the hi-tech sector, as well as show careers for science students outside of the traditional university pathways. We will also talk about the role of technology in sustainability and how we are trying to encourage greater participation by young people in science and science-led careers.
Professor Shane Telfer is a Professor of Chemistry at Massey University, and a Principal Investigator and Catalytic Architectures Research Programme Leader with the MacDiarmid Institute. He is also Director of new start-up company Kākāpore, which was set up to develop metal-organic-frameworks for carbon dioxide capture to support industries achieve Carbon Zero.
Dr Anna Farquhar is a MacDiarmid Institute Alumni Business Scholarship recipient and R&D Team Leader at Aeroqual, a company that specialises in designing integrated hardware and software platforms for ambient air quality monitoring across the world. She is involved in the design and fabrication of new sensor technologies, development of instrumentation to deploy sensor technologies, and building advanced network algorithms to improve data quality.
